The story of Norman and Ethel Thayer’s idyllic summer at their Maine cottage is a tribute to human resilience while also exploring issues like aging, family estrangement, reconciliation, and connection between generations. Broadway productions of the play won several Tony awards, and the film version, starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.
