FACTS AND FIGURES Only 37 of 4thgrade students nationwide are proficient in reading making them more lilely to experience poverty school drop out and academic failure. Illiteracy has a direct correlation with the American prison population as 3 out of 5 prison inmates can39t read. Children who are not reading on grade level by the end of 3rd grade have a 1 in 8 chance of catching up and are 4x more likely to drop out of school.
