It’s been a very busy, very stressful, and very difficult few weeks to say the very least. We have had some really heartbreaking moments, but in between those hard times, we have also had some amazing rescues, and as always, we have the best team, pitching in when needed to help our animal friends. One great example of teamwork, was getting our beloved Wallace help when he was limping. Wallace spent almost two months at Cornell University Nemo Large Animal Hospital last year due to an injury and abscess on the very same foot he was recently limping on. As a senior pig with arthritis, and an unknown past, we do not fool around when it comes to Wallace’s hooves. Wallace gets trims every four months, to the day, by the same amazing trimmer. We also keep Wallace at a very healthy weight. Seeing him lame, and on the same foot, was terrifying, considering that Wallace also cannot take NSAIDS. We wanted to keep Wally home if possible, but it was very clear that he needed to travel to a vet. As a small rescue that takes mostly medical cases, senior and special-needs animals, our veterinary bills are tremendous, not leaving extra funds for a trailer or van for transporting our larger animal friends. Thanks to team members Theresa and Jess, we were able to safely get Wally into one of our personal SUV’s for a long, but comfy ride to get some X-rays. Wallace was a star patient as usual, requiring only a belly rub from his best human friend to sit still for X-rays. We are proud to report that he was described as “ the nicest pig we have seen in a long time”. 💕 As suspected, Wallace was diagnosed with a severely bruised hoof, a minor abscess in his toe area, and surprisingly, Anaplasma, a tick-borne condition. We have never seen a single tick on any of the pigs, but this year is the worst for ticks that we have ever seen. Tick prevention is usually something that we only have to worry about for the dogs, but now all three pigs will be checked daily, and all have prevention. Wally is feeling better every day, and is being a good boy about taking his meds, and is even sometimes allowing foot soaks ( peanut butter helps). We adore Wallace, and will always do whatever it takes to keep him as happy and healthy as possible. Thanks to everyone who helped Wallace. A special thank you to our friend Tess from Rise of the Pig for always being there to help with advice, and moral support. 🙏🏻❤️🐷 Wallace is required to rest, and is taking it easy, but is allowed to spend some limited time with Angela outside of their room on sunny days, as we have not had enough of those lately. We hope to see our best boy back at 100% soon. #bekindtoeverykind (fb)

Foster or forever home needed for super-sweet super-senior Remi! ❤️🐾 Memorial Day weekend is the official start of the very worst season for rescues and shelters. “ The dumping season”. People go on vacation, kids are out of school, and the solution to this for many people, sadly, is to dump their dogs. We have decided to try and turn this around as best we can, and have made a tradition of pulling as many animals as we can from AHS-Newark Branch on Memorial Day weekend. This year…so far, we are at four seniors and a puppy. When our team member Danielle saw 17-year-old adorable pocket Pittie Remi, with her little cow teeth being surrendered, she literally cried. We promised to pull her as soon as possible, and wasted no time doing so. Now…she needs a place to go, as her temporary foster had previously committed to another dog from the very same shelter. Remi is a gentle soul, who has passed her dog test with flying colors ( she does prefer the calmer types) and has also lived peacefully with a cat and children. Remi is a quiet , petite girl ( 30#!} who does have energy for her age, loves walks, cuddling, sleeping, and was amazing for her bath. She is well-behaved, house trained, and happy to be in a safe, comfortable place. Remi seems healthy, happy and content, and is a low-maintenance girl. Now…who wants to foster or foster-to-adopt this precious Elderbull? ❤️🐾 To foster - https://www.hharteam.org/foster-form/ To adopt - https://www.hharteam.org/adoption-form/ Remi is in Northern NJ, and we do not ship dogs. Thank you! ❤️🐾🙏🏻 Welcome, sweet angel. The rest of your life will be the best of your life. You’re special, beautiful, and you’re already Halfway Home ❤️🐾 (fb)
