Focusing on service to veterans service members and communities The American Legion evolved from a group of warweary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States. The Los Angeles Sheriffs Star Post No. 309 received its temporary charter in 1927 and was founded by Los Angeles Sheriffs Deputies who were veterans of World War I.
