Overview

Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife, and people. Founded in 1937 during the Dust Bowl era, when waterfowl populations in North America had drastically declined, DU has become the world's largest and most effective private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization.

History

Ducks Unlimited was established in response to the devastating droughts and habitat loss that threatened North America's waterfowl populations. The organization's founders, including Joseph Palmer Knapp, recognized the need for a coordinated effort to restore and conserve habitats essential for waterfowl survival. Initially focusing on the Prairie Pothole Region of Canada, DU expanded its efforts to include conservation projects across North America.
