Bahia Street

Follow Message Edit

Bahia Street breaks cycles of poverty, inequality and violence by providing high quality educational opportunities to economically-impoverished girls and young women in Salvador, Brazil. The program was developed by African-Brazilian residents of shantytowns in Salvador, Brazil to provide a solution to what they believe to be their most pressing problems.Bahia Street gives some of our world's most disadvantaged people-- poor African-Brazilian girls-- access to education and programs that support them through university. It augments a poorly-funded public school system (that leaves students illiterate) with a high quality educational program on par with the best private schools in Salvador. Bahia Street also addresses the need for non-Brazilians to know more about international development, poverty, race, and effective solutions to global problems.
