🪚Today’s #CrewView is a close-up look at the process of restoring a transom window at 74 Spring Street. As part of the cyclical maintenance of the more than 80 historic properties in our care, the Preservation Crew—which includes painters, field carpenters, millworkers, and system experts— works as a team and each one plays a vital role. • This project started when the Paint Crew found an area of concern during routine maintenance and alerted the Field Carpenters. • The Field Carpenters assessed the cause and extent of damage. • The Mill Carpenters used samples of the damaged pieces to make exact replica replacements. • The Field Carpenters carried out the onsite restoration work and addressed the cause of the original damage (which may involve Systems staff). • The Paint Crew returned for the final finishing work. Our Preservation Crew is part of a long line of tradespeople who have worked to restore and maintain each historic house—and who help ensure the long-term preservation of these special sites for generations to come.
