Meet the artist who honors her heritage through bronze. Ruth Litwin was born on April 14, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska. After growing up in San Antonio, she eventually settled in Dallas, where she discovered her artistic abilities after one art class. Before the Dallas Memorial Center for Holocaust Studies opened at the Jewish Community Center, one of the Museum's founders, Michael "Mike" Jacobs, commissioned Litwin to create a sculpture for the memorial room. Her piece, “Grasping for Life,” is a bronze sculpture set atop a large memorial stone. Flame-like sheaths of bronze rise around an open hand. Litwin suggested an outstretched hand—to convey hope. Today, “Grasping for Life” stands as a powerful tribute—seen by thousands of visitors each year, it invites reflection, remembrance, and hope. (fb)

Behind every Rosenwald school was a blueprint rooted in purpose. Architect Robert Robinson Taylor helped shape the designs that brought education to Black students across the segregated South. From wide windows for natural light to room dividers that turned classrooms into community spaces, every detail served a need. These models by artist Mark Wittig honor the schools that educated generations—and the architecture that made them possible. (fb)
