Light of Cambodian Children, Inc. is dedicated to the youth development of at-risk youth in Lowell, Massachusetts. Through sports, the arts, and leadership opportunities, it seeks to encourage at-risk youth to become self-sufficient, to pursue higher education and to serve as positive role models in the community. Initially envisioned as serving at-risk youth of Cambodian descent, LCC's mandate has expanded to welcome youth from all ethnic backgrounds. In offering a broad range of activities and programs, LCC hopes to provide a strong 'safety net' for the youth, facilitating more positive futures for them and for the society of which they are a part. All of its activities incorporate cultural understanding and childhood development strategies in order to help youth develop their cultural identity, strengthen their relationships with peers and elders and reduce tensions among ethnic groups. These services are provided to youth in a safe and supportive environment, where young people are involved in every aspect of the organization?s development and programming.
