Life has been on earth for 3.8 billion years, and in that time, organisms have learned to do everything we humans want to do without polluting the planet. By emulating nature’s time-tested designs and processes—a process called biomimicry—we have the opportunity to restore our soil, forests, and oceans, create healthy products, and reverse the effects of climate change. The Biomimicry Institute empowers people to create nature-inspired solutions for a healthy planet through biomimicry. We aim to naturalize biomimicry in the culture by promoting the transfer of ideas, designs, and strategies from biology to sustainable systems design. Our goal is for biomimicry to become a natural part of the design process, to create a new generation of innovators who support all life on this planet.
