Fire Horse Refuge, Inc - 501(c)(3) Horse Rescue & Sanctuary About Us Our Mission Fire Horse Refuge Inc. is a 501c3 Private Operating Foundation POF primarily funded by the CatesMartin family which allows us to focus on our mission without relying heavily on public contributions. Our main purpose is to rescue unhandled mustangs from the slaughter pipeline and find them safe stable and loving homes. This is accomplished by purchasing horses at auctions from kill buyers and feedlots and facilitating their placement into sanctuaries and private homes.
