Governor Gavin Newsom’s May Revise budget includes a dangerous suite of "trailer bills" that would create new laws and statutory carve-outs specifically for the controversial Delta Conveyance Project. It does so by gutting public oversight, weakening environmental protections, and trampling on tribal sovereignty and community input. The Governor is pushing these legislative changes as part of a “streamlining” agenda. But advocates say it amounts to a Trump-style power grab that sacrifices the Delta and working Californians to benefit powerful water agencies and corporate agriculture. The trailer bills would: -Fast-track land acquisitions for tunnel construction -Short-circuit water rights proceedings that impact the Delta, even while Indigenous, environmental justice, and fishing communities call for a pause -Block judicial and administrative challenges from impacted Californians by limiting legal pathways to contest the tunnel (fb)

Many disadvantaged communities are stuck between two bad choices: aging, underfunded public systems that struggle with water quality, or private utilities that charge more for the same basic right. 🚰 In both cases, low-income households bear the burden. It’s time to treat water not just as a resource but as a basic human right. ✊ Join us in our fight for clean water for all Angelenos.
