U S S Joseph Strauss Association
The U S S Joseph Strauss Association is a nonprofit organization designated as a 501(c)(19), catering specifically to veterans and members of the armed forces. Its mission is to support and maintain the legacy of the USS Joseph Strauss (DDG-16), a Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer that served in the United States Navy from 1963 until its decommissioning in 1990.
History
Founded by former crew members, families, and friends of the USS Joseph Strauss, the association aims to preserve the history of the destroyer and foster camaraderie among its veterans. The USS Joseph Strauss was commissioned on April 20, 1963, and had a distinguished career that included operational deployment during the Vietnam War, where it played a crucial role in naval operations and air support missions. The vessel was decommissioned on February 1, 1990, and was subsequently sold to Greece, where it was renamed Formion.
