A reminder the the newest "Food and Facts (F2) Training is only a couple days away! Option 1: April 10, 2025, 12 CT Option 2: April 24, 2025, 12 CT Topic: Principles of Toolmark Comparison Instructor(s): Scientific Advancement Committee In the mid-1980s, the AFTE Criteria for Identification Committee was formed in order to establish the 1) Theory of Identification as it relates to tool marks, the 2) Criteria used for individualization and the 3) Spectrum or range of conclusions possible when comparing tool marks. This culminated with the AFTE Theory of Identification (AToID) and the Range of conclusions which were adopted by AFTE in the 1992 business meeting. Since 1992, one minor change to the AToID was adopted in 2011. With the evolving landscape for the discipline, specifically within the courts and examiner testimony, the AFTE Board of Directors requested the Scientific Advancement Committee (SAC) to review the AToID from this perspective. This panel discussion will address the new document titled "Principles of Toolmark Comparison". Members of the SAC will offer their reasoning for the updated language which includes the Conclusions an examiner can reach, the Criteria needed to reach those conclusions, and the Confidence in an examiner's determination. This training series is free for anyone. Fill out the spreadsheet located in the Members Area of the forum to register! (fb)
