Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary Inc. is a nonprofit, private institution of higher learning located in the state of Florida. It was established to address the need for seminary training in the Jacksonville area, aiming to equip individuals for ministry roles.

History

The seminary was chartered by the State of Florida on March 8, 1992, with Dr. Vernon F. Johns as its first President. Dr. Gerald K. Powers and Dr. Stanford Kruse served as Vice Presidents and co-founders. Initially, classes were held on the property of St. Johns Park Baptist Church, with the first graduation ceremony taking place on May 14, 1993. Over the years, the seminary has expanded its facilities, moving to different locations in Jacksonville, including its current site.

Mission and Objective

The primary mission of Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary is to equip and challenge students to live out the principles of the Bible. It strives to prepare individuals for ministry by offering education grounded in biblical teachings, emphasizing the inerrant, infallible, and sacred Word of God.

Academic Programs

The seminary offers a range of academic programs at the Associate, Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels in fields such as Religious Education, Ministry, and Theology, including a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biblical studies. These programs are designed solely for religious vocations.

Community Impact

Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary has been involved in outreach ministries, including projects with Hands on Africa in Malawi, Kenya, and Sierra Leone since 2003. It also provides educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals. To date, the seminary has graduated over 1,000 students who serve in various capacities across the United States and internationally.

The seminary operates under the governance of a Board of Trustees, adhering to Florida state guidelines. It is focused on creating a spiritual environment that fosters growth and service among its community of students and faculty.
