Jesse E. Clifford, born in 1822 in Wentworth, NH, married Mary Barton in Lowell, MA on August 12, 1845. According to “The Springfield Daily Republican,” Jesse was a watchman for the Boott Corporation when he was crushed to death on April 7, 1846, by a falling wall of a building he was demolishing. At the time, Amos was 24 years old and had been married six months. He is buried on Columbine Path in a lot purchased by Mary. She married Daniel Eastman in 1848 and a tall obelisk with the name Eastman marks the lot. Source: “The Springfield Daily Republican,” April 10, 1846. (fb)
