Day 7 and 8 are our last days at the Convention. We’re celebrating National Walking Month, too, with some great walks: Friday May 2: Again, we rotate 2 of our walks: • White Sands National Park – buses will leave between 7:15am – 8:15am. Explore the world's largest gypsum dunefield along boardwalks and through the dunes itself. Sanctioned for 5k only (for bus walkers) due to time constraints. This is a great hike but the dunes take a long time to walk – it’s 2 steps forward, 1 step back. FYI: the trail is marked by posts in the sand. Do not stray from a post until you see another one. This walk can be done anytime April 26 – May 4. • Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park – buses leave between 7:30am – 10:30am. Located along the western bank of the Rio Grande, the heart of the park is 52 acres of Rio Grande floodplain known as the ”Old Refuge;” the total park acreage is about 945 acres of both wetlands and Chihuahuan Desert. This walk can be done anytime April 26 – May 4. Lunch is provided at the Convention Center. Bike event is available. Silent Auction winners should pay and pick up their prizes today, 8:30am - From 2:30 – 4:30 is the General Membership meeting. Delegates will be voting via electronic voting on your phone, tablet, or computer, as shown in the last webinar. Mike Green will be on hand to help anyone who is having trouble. The official convention ends. BUT we have a special event Saturday May 3: Community Walk through downtown Las Cruces and the Historic Mesquite Street District is Saturday May 3. The start is at the offices of Visit Las Cruces downtown. The offices open at 8am, when the 10K walkers may begin. The community is invited to walk a 3K and 5K with us, and we hope you will join them to talk about AVA: America’s Walking Club, and the fun, fitness and friendship we all share. Visit Las Cruces will stay open until 12noon. City buses are free if you don’t have a vehicle. The Farmer’s Market is open until 1pm, and covers 7 blocks downtown. #VisitLasCruces (fb)
