Float Research Collective
The Float Research Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on promoting Floatation-REST (Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy) as a recognized medical treatment for alleviating conditions such as pain, stress, anxiety, and other related issues. The organization was officially formed in the summer of 2022.
Mission
The mission of the Float Research Collective includes several key objectives:
- Establishment as a Medical Treatment: To achieve worldwide recognition and acceptance of Floatation-REST as a treatment that can be prescribed by healthcare professionals and reimbursed by insurance companies.
- Research Advancement: To secure funding for ongoing clinical float research, which involves creating a cloud-based platform for data collection from recreational float centers, building a dedicated Float Clinic for clinical trials, and launching a pilot grant fund to support research at universities and hospitals.
- Educational Resource: To serve as an educational hub for the float industry, facilitating the dissemination of Floatation-REST knowledge globally.
Key Projects
- Project Arcturus: An ambitious international study aimed at exploring the full clinical indications of floating. The project plans to involve over 100 commercial float centers worldwide and will be among the largest float studies ever conducted. Initially targeted to start in 2024, it now aims to begin in 2025 with results publication expected by 2026.
- Maui Calm Project: Part of the Float Research Collective, this initiative is dedicated to providing disaster relief through free Clinical Float Therapy for individuals affected by the trauma of natural disasters in Maui.
Leadership and Structure
The organization is led by Dr. Justin Feinstein, a clinical neuropsychologist who has been instrumental in pioneering the use of Floatation-REST for anxiety and stress relief. Dr. Feinstein is also known for his work in neuroscience, focusing on the body-brain connection and developing drug-free treatments for mental health conditions.
The Float Research Collective operates as a collaborative community involving researchers, medical professionals, and advocates from across the float therapy industry. The organization's diverse membership includes experts from various fields, all working towards the common goal of integrating Floatation-REST into mainstream healthcare.
