Coming Soon: Healdsburg Museum docents' History Talks will return to the Plaza Gazebo this summer on Saturdays from June 21 to Aug. 23, 10 a.m. to noon. We'll have talks by 12 docents and six guest speakers, including members of pioneer families in town. Among our topics will be: • Our architectural heritage. • The Italian immigrant story in town. • A 20th century 40-year economic doom-loop that led to a resurgence of prosperity in the 21st century. • Historic places to dine, stay and play in town. • The history of Alexander Valley. • Lumber and Prunes, important local industries that are long gone. What a beautiful historic event we celebrated last Sunday at the naming of the Abel De Luna Community Center! The Healdsburg City Council and staff, the extended DeLuna family, Healdsburg community members, Latino and non-Latino, gathered at the Community Center to commemorate the occasion. Abel DeLuna, a native of Zacatecas, spoke with humility about his journey and path to improve his life and help others. He graciously shared credit for this success with the community. Respected Activist/Humanitarian Dolores Huerta, his guest, spoke eloquently and also inspired the crowd. The Museum is grateful to professional photographer Rick Tang for donating high-resolution digital copies of photographs that he took to commemorate this important day. (fb)
