2025 AIA Houston Design Awards – Architecture Greater Than 50K SF Award Winner: Yellowstone Schools. Firm: Kirksey Architecture Contractor: Tellepsen Structural Engineer: Matrix Structural Engineers MEP Engineer: Henderson Engineers Civil Engineer: Duplantis Design Group In Houston’s historic Third Ward, Yellowstone Schools has grown from its roots in the 1926 Douglass Elementary School into a full Pre-K–12 campus that honors heritage while shaping the future. Inspired by the row house typology of the neighborhood, the design reinterprets these forms with gabled roofs clad in glass and metal—symbols of progress and aspiration—balanced by brick elements that connect to the school’s historic context.

Firm: Lake Flato Architects Contractor: Harvey-Cleary Structural Engineer: Datum Civil Engineer: Walter P Moore The new Student Center has redefined the heart of Awty International School’s campus, setting the stage for future growth while honoring its multicultural community. Replacing outdated structures, the three-story center unites dining, library, science labs, classrooms, and a multipurpose hall with outdoor terraces, walkways, and rain gardens that enhance both community and curriculum.
