🐞 Winged Seeds by Jia Sung is officially open at Think!Chinatown's Studio! Composed of painted portraits framed by embroidered motifs of so-called “invasive” plants, the exhibition gathers diasporic memory, family archives, and ecological entanglements. Shaped in collaboration with Chinatown community members, workshop attendees gathered to stitch the frames for painted ancestral portraits and share family histories—interweaving personal memory with the legacy of displacement. 🫂 It was such a special opening celebration for everyone who collaborated on this exhibition from the artist team, embroidery workshop participants, portrait subjects, friends and family, and more. Alan's aunt Suzy, who participated in the embroidery workshops and is the subject of one of the paintings, shared some sweet words about the opening: "Just wonderful, so amazing. The event felt so loving." 💃 Who's ready for tonight's cha-cha dance performance by San Francisco's legendary Grant Avenue Follies? Presented by Think!Chinatown and Chinatown Cha-Cha Film, grab your dancing shoes for a special evening of cha-cha and showgirl sparkle! 🪭 Grant Avenue Follies bring to life the legacy of San Francisco Chinatown's golden nightclub era (1940's to 1970's). Originally comprised of four retired dancers of the nightclubs, they were following doctor's orders to exercise for improved physical health. The Follies rediscovered the sheer joy and freedom of dance and reconnected with their roots.
