It was founded in 1983 by Nina Zimbelman, a teacher and researcher in metaphysics and intuition. The organization is situated on a 50-acre property on a mountain top in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.

Prior to grounding the foundation, Zimbelman taught globally, including locations such as Oregon, Hawaii, London, Guam, and Egypt.
