CIRCLE OF CHANGE
Improves the mental wellness for high-risk populations through innovative dog training programs. Circle of Change (COC), established in 2007, actively helps individuals (primarily US military veterans) in Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, who were diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries or other emotional issues. COC seeks to improve the quality of life of participants through weekly sessions of dog handling done with professional dog trainers. Dogs participants are chosen based on their own behavior concerns (similar to the PTSD symptoms of humans). Through aiding in each dog's rehabilitation, participants begin to see a pathway to their own recovery, which builds confidence, self-respect, security, as well as social and communication skills.
