The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the care of women with gynecologic cancers. History

The idea for the SGO originated in 1968 from discussions between Drs. Hervy E. Averette and John J. Mikuta. The society was formally established in January 1969, with George C. Lewis, Jr., MD, serving as its first chair. Since its inception, the SGO has grown into a global, inclusive community dedicated to advancing cancer care and improving patient outcomes.

Education and Research

The SGO publishes the medical journal Gynecologic Oncology, which serves as a key platform for disseminating research findings and clinical practices in the field.
