Colorado Dermatologic Society

The Colorado Dermatologic Society (CDS) is a statewide professional organization for dermatologists in Colorado. Established in 1959, the CDS is dedicated to enhancing skin health in Colorado through education and advocacy.

Mission and Objectives

The CDS aims to promote quality, safety, and collegiality in the delivery of dermatologic care. It focuses on providing continuing medical education (CME) to its members, facilitating professional networking, and advocating for policies that benefit the public and medical community.

Membership and Structure

The society includes various membership classes:

• Active Members: Physicians practicing dermatology or dermatopathology in Colorado or Wyoming, who are board-certified by relevant boards.
• Retired Members: Former active or associate members who are retired from practice. They retain rights and privileges but cannot hold office.
• Associate Members: Physicians who have completed a dermatology residency but are not board-certified, or those practicing in other states.
• Honorary Members: Individuals who have contributed significantly to Colorado dermatology.

The Board of Directors manages the society's business and includes a president, president-elect, immediate past president, secretary, treasurer, two trustees, and a resident trustee.

Activities and Events

The CDS organizes monthly educational meetings, featuring expert speakers and case presentations, as well as an annual meeting with national experts. It also participates in public awareness campaigns, such as skin cancer screenings and the Sun Safety Awareness Day.

Advocacy

The society is involved in legislative processes, advocating for policies related to healthcare, patient safety, and access to medications. These efforts often involve collaboration with other medical societies.

The CDS has received several awards from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), including Model State Awards for advocacy and education initiatives.
