Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Wyoming

The Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Wyoming, also known as the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Wyoming, is a fraternal organization that serves as the governing body for Freemasonry in the state of Wyoming. Founded on December 15, 1874, it is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the principles of Freemasonry, including brotherly love, relief, and truth.

History

The first Masonic meeting in the territory of Wyoming took place on July 4, 1862, at Independence Rock, a site along the Oregon and Mormon trails. This meeting was conducted by about twenty Masons from wagon trains heading to Oregon. They temporarily constructed a lodge on the rock using available materials and held a meeting during which Asa L. Brown was elected as the Worshipful Master. The meeting was significant as it marked the beginning of organized Freemasonry in the region.

The Grand Lodge of Wyoming was officially established in Laramie City, with four lodges represented: Cheyenne Lodge № 1, Laramie Lodge № 3, Evanston Lodge № 4, and Wyoming Lodge № 2. Edgar P. Snow was elected the first Grand Master of the territory. Over time, Freemasonry grew significantly in Wyoming, reaching a peak of 12,814 members in 1961 across 56 chartered lodges.

The Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Wyoming aim to foster personal growth, improve society, and build stronger communities through the practice of Masonic values. Members engage in charitable work, educational programs, and social activities that promote unity and mutual support.
