The Cumberland River Basin, of which Tennessee is part, is in the top three most biodiverse regions in the world. With approximately 61,000 miles of river in the state, Tennessee’s rivers and streams are among our state’s best resources. Unfortunately, about 30% of the state’s streams are too low of quality to be able to support a healthy population of fish and other aquatic wildlife, and almost 40% of the state’s streams are not fit for human recreation.
