Last week, our team received a message that stopped us in our tracks. It came from Cyrus—someone who was part of one of our programs more than two years ago. He didn’t reach out to ask for anything. He just wanted to share what’s been happening in his life—and to say thank you. Cyrus has walked a long and often difficult road. When he first came to The Rescue Mission, he was carrying more than just the weight of his circumstances—he was sprinting through life, trying to outrun his past. But those things can catch up, no matter how fast we go. What he found here wasn’t just shelter, food, or structure (though those were part of his journey). What stood out to him—what truly changed the course of his life—was insight. Cyrus told us he realized he needed to slow down. To stop running. To face the burdens he had been trying to escape, lay them down, and begin to walk forward with purpose. That realization didn’t come easy. Like many, he reached a point of surrender—where he finally accepted the help that had been offered all along. And that’s when everything began to change. He surrounded himself with the right people—family, friends, mentors. He made sure he had the tools and support in place to take his next step when the time was right. And he walked through every open door with courage and determination. Today, Cyrus’s life looks very different than it did two years ago. He’s working full-time. He’s about to become a father. These aren’t just milestones—they’re miracles. And they remind us of the power of what happens when someone chooses to hope again… and when that hope is met with love, guidance, and community.
