The Mask of Providence The name Esther (אֶסְתֵּר) is derived from the Hebrew root “seter” (סתר), meaning “hidden.” This points to hester panim (הֶסְתֵּר פָּנִים), the concept of God’s hiddenness—where His presence is not overt, yet His hand is at work in every detail. Purim reveals that while divine intervention may not always be obvious, it is no less real.   The Great Reversal: Concealment to Revelation Purim is filled with irony and dramatic turnarounds: * Haman, the enemy who plotted the Jews’ destruction, is executed on the very gallows he prepared for Mordechai. * Esther, initially concealing her Jewish identity, ultimately becomes the key to her people’s salvation. * What seemed like impending doom—Haman’s decree—turns into a day of celebration and victory.
  This theme of reversal is at the heart of Purim. Life often appears random or chaotic, but Purim reminds us that hidden within the seemingly ordinary events of life is divine orchestration. Nothing is truly accidental. (fb)
