Axiom Repertory Theatre Mar 21 30 Once Upon a Mattress is a musical comedy that retells the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Pea in a medieval setting. The story follows Princess Winnifred the Woebegone an unconventional and charming swamp princess as she enters a kingdomwide search to become the bride of Prince Dauntless. However the queen who has impossibly high standards for her sons potential wife tries to prevent the match even going so far as to devise a sensitivity test to prove Winnifreds royal birth. The test involves placing a pea under a stack of mattresses and decreeing that Winnifred must be able to sleep on top of it to pass.
