BAHIA is the only full-time, Latino non-profit in Berkeley providing bilingual childcare and education to children ages 2-10. BAHIA was established in 1975 by and for Latino families to address the unmet need for bilingual child development services for low-income Latino families in Northern Alameda County. Today, BAHIA remains the only bilingual, full-time, non-profit toddler/preschool childcare and after-school program in the region, providing subsidies to over 60% of the families served. Our programs provide a continuum of quality, affordable services to children and families for up to eight consecutive years. Research shows that early care and education participation increases self-reliance and personal growth and decreases unnecessary costs, both personal and societal.
