Overview

The Alaska Section of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing multidisciplinary approaches in water resources management, research, and education within Alaska. It is part of the broader AWRA network, which encompasses various state sections across the United States.

Purpose and Activities

The Alaska Section brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds to address a range of issues related to water policy, management, and scientific studies. Their focus includes promoting collaboration among water resource professionals, fostering education, and facilitating public awareness of water-related issues in Alaska.

Relationship with AWRA

While the Alaska Section is part of the larger AWRA network, it operates as an autonomous entity. This autonomy allows the section to tailor its activities and priorities to the specific needs of Alaska's water resources. AWRA, founded in 1964, is a leading multidisciplinary organization in the United States, with a commitment to advancing water resources management through conferences, publications, and various member activities.

Events and Collaborations

The Alaska Section collaborates with AWRA on various initiatives, including hosting conferences. For example, the section co-hosted the 2025 Spring Conference in Anchorage, Alaska. These events provide opportunities for networking, professional development, and knowledge exchange among water resource professionals.

Mission

The mission of the Alaska Section aligns with AWRA's broader objectives, focusing on increasing recognition and contributions of its members, enhancing professional development, and providing avenues for information exchange and education about water resources. The section aims to address the unique challenges faced by water resource management in Alaska through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.
