Last Saturday at May Commencement, President R. Gerald Turner gave some parting words to the class of 2025, as he concludes his 30-year legacy at SMU. "At SMU, we've tried to infuse you with a positive, can-do, up-and-at-em attitude that defines the Texas spirit and the Dallas spirit. Life will be more enjoyable and meaningful to you if you have adapted to that lifestyle. And also, the points will help you too. To review them, develop a diligent support team, maintain good health and energy, enjoy your work, stay humble, be positive and optimistic, and stay intellectually and spiritually vibrant. Dr. Shilo Brooks has been appointed as the new President and CEO of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, effective September 2, 2025. In addition to his leadership at the Bush Center, Dr. Brooks will join SMU as a Professor of the Practice in the Political Science Department and serve as a Senior Fellow at both the Center for Presidential History and the Tower Center for Public Policy and International Affairs.
