As you may have seen in the news, parts of Missouri and Kentucky were ravaged by a series of EF3 tornadoes on Friday, May 16th. As of this email, the tornadoes have taken the lives of at least 27 people with many others still missing and thousands of buildings damaged or destroyed in the two states. The most severe destruction occurred in Eastern Kentucky—particularly in Laurel, Russell, and Pulaski Counties, with the worst damage in London and Somerset—and around St. Louis. However, Western Kentucky and parts of Illinois were also impacted. Our hearts are with all the communities affected by the tornadoes. As updates continue to emerge from Missouri and Kentucky, the NECHAMA staff will keep you informed with the latest developments and opportunities to help out. #FlashbackFriday! Last week, FI Service Corps volunteers helped us make significant progress on two homes! At the first house, they hung drywall, installed subflooring, and framed interior walls. At the second house, they focused on finishing work which included sanding, mudding, patching drywall, and painting multiple rooms.
