Birmingham African American Genealogy Group
The Birmingham African American Genealogy Group, Inc. is the oldest African American genealogy group in the state of Alabama. Its purpose is to encourage genealogical and family research among individuals and the community with the objective of seeing African Americans become aware of their history and heritage. We teach and stress the importance of supporting various libraries, museums and other repositories with the preservation and maintenance of their collections. We strive to stimulate the membership and general public to research, study, and record their family's histories. To this end, we offer seminars and monthly members educational classes. Lastly, we promote and maintain ethical standards in genealogical research and publications.
