🦈 More than 400 shark fins have been seized in Thailand in a joint operation between Thai and Chinese authorities cracking down on wildlife smuggling. The fins were intercepted at Suvarnabhumi Airport after a tip-off about a suspicious shipment passing through Thailand that may have violated CITES regulations. The cargo was falsely declared as “dry fish,” originating from Trinidad and Tobago and destined for China. Officials from Thailand’s Customs Department, the Anti-Smuggling Bureau of China, the Fisheries Department, and Thai Airways International worked together to uncover the shipment — which weighed over 100 kkilograms and carried an estimated value of more than 2 million baht approximately $54,000 USD. This seizure is a major step in enforcing laws against the illegal wildlife trade and protecting endangered marine species.
