Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC)

The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) is an international, interdisciplinary organization dedicated to the advancement of supportive care in cancer. Founded in 1990, MASCC has grown to include members from over 70 countries worldwide.

Mission

MASCC’s mission is to continually improve the supportive care of people with cancer, from diagnosis through treatment to survivorship or end-of-life care. Supportive care encompasses the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment, including both physical and psychological symptoms.

Goals and Activities

• Interdisciplinary Approach: MASCC promotes person-centered care, highlighting the importance of collaboration across disciplines to develop evidence-based clinical practices.
• Research and Education: The organization supports research and educational initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care for cancer patients. This includes the development of guidelines and the promotion of evidence-based medicine.
• Collaboration: MASCC works with patient advocates, other societies, and institutions to advance its goals.

Partnerships and Events

MASCC has partnered with the International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO) since 1998. Together, they hold an annual meeting to showcase new developments in supportive care.

Research Initiatives

MASCC publishes comprehensive guidelines and recommendations on various aspects of supportive care, including the management of immune-mediated toxicities associated with new cancer treatments such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). These guidelines cover a range of toxicities, from endocrinopathies to cardiovascular, rheumatic, and renal complications.
