THE UNPLANNED MIRACLE That morning, the healing of the lame man was not on anybody’s date book. When Peter and John set out, they could never have dreamed of the events that were to unfold that day. The lame man did not know it was to be his red-letter day. Peter and John went up to pray, but the “unplanned” event became the main event of the day! They recognized prayer as a source of intimacy with God, which gave them sensitivity to His direction and allowed His power to work through them. When we recognize we are in the path of duty, we are on the high road of blessing. Anything may happen. The “unplanned” blessing may eclipse what we originally set out to do. The healing of the lame man was a sidebar that morning but soon took center stage. So, when you walk in God’s will, the unplanned thing you were not aware of may bring blessings beyond your faintest expectations. Our heavenly Father is the “father of the unplanned,” and His plans may not match the items on our list. Our God is greater, and His plans are higher than ours can ever be. Miracles, signs, and wonders are an important aspect of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit at work among God’s people. Often miraculous signs accompanied their mission to spread Christ’s message to those who did not know Him. (Acts 9:1-7; 9:20-22) It is clear from the book of Acts, that God’s intention in creating humanity was for us to have a right relationship with Him and our fellow man, and to function and thrive in a community environment. The church in Jerusalem had a sense of community, purpose, and practiced selfless generosity. By this they clearly showed their dedication and gratitude to God for all His blessings. Their faithfulness to Christ, their values, and practices impacted their communities. God blessed them with spiritual and numerical growth. and the “unplanned miracles” became evidence of God’s power and their obedience to His command. (Mark 16:15) (fb)
