💛 Happy Gotcha Day, Lucy! We never even got the chance to call you Courtney — the name we chose — because your foster fell in love with you before we could! Luckily we got to spend a few weeks getting to know you before going back into your forever home! Lucy was found the same day a heartbreaking tragedy struck the Hill Country, claiming the lives of three beloved community members in a motorcycle accident. In honor of their memory, we named her and her sibling after them — Danny and Courtney. With a calm, soulful spirit, Lucy carried both heartbreak and healing in her eyes. Despite a neglectful past — even surviving with a BB pellet lodged in her head — she is the very picture of resilience. Her story, and this family’s legacy, remind us to live with faith and love, just as they did. Rest in peace to Dan, Courtney, and Cody Cortez. May we always look twice and share the road.
