Jesuit mourns the passing of Brian William North ’83, who served as chair of the school’s board of directors since 2015. North, a devoted alumnus and civic leader, passed away on June 2, 2025. He was 59. “Brian’s leadership was rooted in quiet strength and deep faith,” said Jesuit President Fr. John Brown, S.J. “He led with humility, always placing Jesuit’s mission and our students at the center of every decision. His legacy is one of service, generosity, and fidelity to the lofty ideals of a Jesuit education.” North’s commitment to Jesuit was unwavering. Elected to the board in 2013, he became chair two years later, guiding the school through a decade marked by growth, resilience, and renewed mission focus. His leadership was instrumental in strategic planning, financial stewardship, and the advancement of Jesuit’s campus as well as its endowment, ensuring the school’s long-term sustainability. During his tenure as chair, he advised and counseled four presidents. North is survived by his wife, Sueann North; their son, William North ’13; and their daughter, Molly North, a graduate of St. Mary’s Dominican High School. He is also survived by his brother, Michael North ’82; his sister Katherine Costantini; his nephews Eric North ’12, Jack North ’17, Nate Costantini (a rising senior at Jesuit); three grandchildren; and other extended family members. On May 22, 2025, at the Pontchartrain Center, the Class of 2025 officially joined the ranks of Blue Jay alumni. Graduating seniors celebrated their achievements in the presence of faculty, staff, family, and friends. The class was awarded 243 diplomas by Fr. John Brown, S.J., Jesuit’s president. This year’s valedictorian, Andrew Duncan, reflected on the collective journey of the graduating class, emphasizing the resilience and unity that defined their high school experience. He highlighted the importance of embracing both triumphs and challenges, encouraging his peers to carry forward the lessons learned and the bonds formed. Duncan’s speech reminded his classmates to cherish the present, honor the past, and approach the future with optimism and determination. He reflected on the Latin phrase “Veni, vidi, vici”— “we came, we saw, we conquered”— as fitting the start of their Jesuit journey, and contrasted it with “Vice te ipsum”— “we have conquered ourselves”— which he said captures the class’s completion of that journey. He encouraged his peers to recognize how they had indeed conquered themselves and to continue doing so for the greater good: the world needs Blue Jays. #AMDG #BlueJays Find a comprehensive list of graduates, a gallery of graduation day photos, and the full valedictory address here: www.jesuitnola.org/2025/06/02/jesuit-celebrates-243-graduates-of-the-class-of-2025/ (fb)
