By 1945, they leased land for the camp at Double Lake in East Texas. The success of these early endeavors led to the formation of a state charter as a non-profit organization on December 11, 1946. In 1960, the camp acquired the Silver Hills Ranch with 256 acres near Marble Falls, Texas, expanding over the years to a total of 382 acres[2].
