MOMS Club is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization focused on supporting stay-at-home mothers. The organization is an acronym for Moms Offering Moms Support. Founded in 1985 by Mary James in California, it has grown to include numerous chapters across the United States and internationally.

History

Mary James, a stay-at-home mother of two, started the MOMS Club due to her desire to connect with other at-home mothers and provide playmates for her children. She noticed a lack of daytime activities and organizations for moms and their children, leading her to establish the first chapter. The success of this initial chapter led to the expansion of the group nationwide.

Controversy

In recent years, MOMS Club encountered controversy when an anti-racist message devised by a chapter was not posted on the organization's international Facebook page. This led to significant backlash and the departure of hundreds of members from the organization. The dispute highlighted the challenges of balancing inclusivity with organizational policies.

Nonprofit Status

MOMS Club chapters are covered under the International MOMS Club's group exemption with the IRS, maintaining their nonprofit status. This classification is crucial for their operations as they focus on educational and charitable activities.
