Got Your Back San Diego is a weekend nutrition program for children in San Diego County schools who have been identified as food insecure. Since 2010, Got Your Back San Diego is a weekend food assistance program for school children whose primary food source is cafeteria food Monday through Friday, but often have to endure weekends with little to nothing to eat. Working through local schools, the Got Your Back Project provides kids with enough food for an entire weekend. Every Friday, GYB kids leave school with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and a few healthy snacks in a backpack. The Got Your Back San Diego Project is having a significant impact in the lives of those children fortunate enough to participate in it, but we have only begun to scratch the surface of the needs in our communities. Our mission is to fight against childhood food insecurity until every child in our local schools has a reliable food source.
