The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center mourns the passing on May 29, 2025, of the great Charles Wadsworth, its revered Founding Artistic Director who led the organization for two decades. Read our full remembrance of Charles: https://t.co/XplH1Oygjm https://t.co/JIWykmMsyX (tw)

Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (1894) is considered a landmark of early modernism,.Inspired by a poem by Stéphane Mallarmé, the piece evokes the daydreams of a faun on a languid afternoon. Its lush textures and harmonies marked a break from Romantic conventions and helped shape the sound of French impressionism. In this 2022 performance from Alice Tully Hall, an ensemble of CMS artists brings Debussy’s orchestral work to life in a striking chamber arrangement: Lucille Chung (piano) Michael Stephen Brown (harmonium) Scott Pingel (double bass) Daniel Ching (violin) William Fedkenheuer (violin) John Largess (viola) Joshua Gindele (cello) Tara Helen O'Connor (lute) Stephen Taylor (oboe) Jose Franch-Ballester (clarinet) Ayano Kataoka (percussion) Ian David Rosenbaum (percussion) #debussy #modernism #impressionism #classicalmusic #satie #ravel #chambermusic (fb)
