Hesed Community Hesed Community An urban meditation community in the heart of the Bay Area Hesed Community is a Christian meditation community that was founded in 1981 in Oakland California by Sister Barbara Hazzard who remained its director for over 30 years. Our community life is based upon Benedictine spirituality our mission is the teaching and practice of Christian Meditation as taught by John Main OSB. Our ongoing daily halfhourmeditations are on zoom at 7 am and 7 pm. An hour long John Main meditation with Lectio Divina is on Mondays at 4 pm.
