When planning an 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 tour, visitors approach it in many ways: -> Visit nearby studios. -> Visit studios in a specific loop. -> Visit studios that sound cool. -> Visit studios that feature artists working in a specific medium. -> 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵? Let's go super-niche & look at participating artists working in the book arts. 📖 We’re referring to studios by name & number - the number refers to a listing in the tour guide. We’ll start at studio #1, Meta Strick (Fairfield). Meta does wonderful mixed media work, including dolls with a book component. She believes that you can make anything into a book. Next stop is studio #50, Carolyn Shattuck (Rutland). Carolyn is a printmaker & bookmaker who uses scrap print pieces in her handmade books. Her books include pop-up elements that set the scene for her storytelling. Next up is studio #109, 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗰𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗻/May Day Studio (Montpelier). Kelly is a letterpress printer & a bookbinder. She carves designs in linoleum & combines them with type to create her prints. The fourth stop is studio #110, Elissa Campbell/Blue Roof Designs (Montpelier). Elissa started making books while in graduate school for Art Therapy & loves knowing that people use her journals & photo albums to tell their personal stories. The last studio is #116, 𝗞𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗲 (Hardwick). Ken creates books in a circular format – a practice that came from his dissatisfaction with rectangular painting shapes.
