Reminder that the DEC is seeking public comments on the Draft Adirondack Brook Trout Pond Management Plan! Below are some key points from the DEC about the new 15-year plan: * Builds upon the lessons learned from implementing the 1979 management plan. * Incorporates current science. * Addresses emerging challenges to pond-dwelling Adirondack brook trout. * Provides common technical guidance to DEC fisheries biologists. * Establishes consistent management across the Adirondacks. * Seeks to reduce the spread of detrimental and incompatible fish species, including baitfish. * Creates a learning environment to support adaptive management. Follow the link in comments to review the plan and send in your comments. Comments are due by June 13, 2025. Be sure to have your voice heard! #catchthepower (fb)

TREK FOR TROUT 2025! Trout Power joined forces with fellow non profits and colleges for the NYSDEC Trek for Trout event this past weekend. Despite the rainy weather, members from our group hiked to over a dozen ponds across the Adirondacks, hanging signs as part of a citizen science initiative to collect angler data and protect these fisheries. Once posted, these signs will provide DEC with important angler information and protect brook trout ponds by reminding anglers that the use of baitfish is prohibited. In total across the Adirondacks, there were almost 200 ponds reached in one day! We’re thankful to have been a part of such a great event of unity and advocacy for our native brook trout. Kudos to the NYSDEC for spearheading and organizing this event, and to all of the dedicated folks who made the trek for brook trout! So the next time you visit a brook trout pond, look for the new signs and snap a pic of the QR code to take a survey to record your fishing efforts! #catchthepower (fb)
