It is with a sad but very joyous heart we share, today, Remington’s Heart has written our last check. But that does not mean the fantastic good that comes from these funds, that were so generously donated, is finished. It simply means, as a small charity, we cannot be as efficient with the overhead as a much larger organization is able to be. Over the past six years, we have relied 100% on volunteer staffing and fundraising. As we have grown, the time involved has increased substantially, as well as the costs just to maintain our organization’s presence on the Web, Facebook, etc. T-shirt, web and graphics design were all handled in-house as well. We reached a point that we were going to have to pay for services we had been able to handle ourselves. Spending a great deal more of the donated funds, just in over-head, would not be a good stewardship of funds donors gave to help Heart Families. As a board, we voted to sell our assets and forward those funds, as well as our remaining bank funds to Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation in St Louis. They are a much larger organization and not solely reliant on volunteer staff. They do share our mission of helping Heart Families. Through your generosity, over $11,000 was sent to Might Oakes today. They were very excited to accept these funds for use with local heart families as they also cover the area Remington’s Heart did. We want to thank everyone that has been a part of Remington’s Heart’s journey. Over the span of six years, we were able to help hundreds of families, many of whom were literally down to their last hour to have a utility disconnected or their only mode of transportation re-possessed. Many of these families were so over-whelmed when we told them it had been taken care of, they were unable to speak, and for that, we thank each and every one of you for caring enough to get involved. We have met so many wonderful people during this journey and we will never forget finding out how truly a small world it is. Many have told us they had never felt moved to get involved with a charity but they now know how great it feels to help others. For that, we are extremely grateful.
