Pennsylvania Ag Discovery Center

The Pennsylvania Ag Discovery Center is a nonprofit educational organization located in Pennsylvania. Its purpose is to highlight the significance of agriculture in the state and educate the public about its role in everyday life.

The center aims to bridge the gap between agriculture and the general public by promoting and celebrating agricultural practices. The mission includes highlighting Pennsylvania's pivotal role in the nation's agriculture.

Facility and Features

The center is planned as a 25,000-square-foot facility in Adams County, near Gettysburg. Key features include:

• State of Agriculture Interactive Table: This allows visitors to trace the origin of their food and fiber.
• 4D Theater: It focuses on the story of Pennsylvania's agriculture, providing an immersive experience.
• Ag-themed Outdoor Playground: Designed for children to learn about agriculture in a fun environment.

Governance and Leadership

The center is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, representing various agricultural organizations across Pennsylvania. David Smith of the PA Dairymen’s Association serves as the chairman. In April, Tom O’Connor was appointed as the first Executive Director, bringing his experience from leading York County's Leg Up Farm.

Funding

The project has received significant funding support, including a state grant of $658,150 for its outdoor playground. The center is preparing for a capital campaign in 2025.

Location and Partnerships

Located in Adams County, the center collaborates with the Adams Economic Alliance, which includes the Adams County Economic Development Corporation, Adams County Industrial Development Authority, and Adams County General Authority. This partnership underscores the center's economic and educational ambitions for the community.
