Stagvillle Memorial Project

The Stagville Memorial Project is on a mission to establish a memorial located in downtown Durham, North Carolina to honor the people formerly enslaved at Stagville Plantation, one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. Through this establishment, we hope to expand our community’s collective understanding of Durham’s unique history, and specifically, who gets included in that story. We also hope to bring greater awareness to the Stagville State Historic Site, support Stagville’s vast group of descendants in coming together under a common purpose, and help the larger community ponder the ongoing legacies of slavery.
